What is lipstick made of ? I have heard people saying that it is made of whale? is that true?

mostly bees wax these daysWhat is lipstick made of ? I have heard people saying that it is made of whale? is that true?
I suggest looking on the box, but I heard it was made of fish scales and beetle wings. That's what makes it shiny. What is lipstick made of ? I have heard people saying that it is made of whale? is that true?
some lipsticks contain fish scales
who knows what ends up in makeup these days? rat feces? human blood?
Eww...i have heard people put in fish intestines and stuff. i don't know if its true!! i hope not... but who cares? i mean, everyone uses lipstick anyways.
YEP SOME FATS FROM WHALE OR ANY ANIMAL CAN MAKELIPSTICKS
Lipstick, for example, can contain the shimmery substance of fish scales called ';pearl essence';.

The red color of lipstick can come from iron oxide (rust) or from organic pigments
Technically yes but also of crush beatles. But these things are also in your food, so who cares.Enjoy.
no. no, fish semen, or scales, can't remember
it definatly was whale that was used before but not now i don't reckon.
Not much anymore, if at all. It used to be that way. Now they are mostly made up from chemicals mixed in a lab.
its depends on if the brand is for or against animal testing. I know a lot of chap-sticks have whale fat in them. sick huh?
I believe people get bored really easy. It's like some people believe that mascara is made from bats. I have no idea if it's true or not. As I have no idea if it's true that lipstick is made from whale. What do you think?? You can always check the ingredients right?
No; and I'm getting really fed up of these old myths being dredged up. Whale fat may have been an ingrediant 30 years ago, do you really think that any company would risk using it today? Where did you hear this from? Your source is not only unreliable, it is deliberately feeding you misinformation. They must have a reason, probably to get you upset and worked up.

You can contact any company and ask for a list of ingrediants.
Well, it used to be made of oils from whales, I don't know if they do anymore.
the shine is an ingrediant called bismithoxichloride its found in eyeshadow and nail polish and its a man made ingrediant the main ingrediants are usually beeswax and lanolin( from sheep a fatty substance) moistuiriser has some icky ingrediants but only the unreal expensive ones that the celebrities use it has placenta in them either animal or human ugh
Cosmetics are basically anything applied to the body more than basic cleansing in order to beautify or enhance.

1. There are regulations that protect you if you use American products. the FDA covers cosmetics: Two points I felt applied:

';Under the FD%26amp;C Act, a cosmetic is adulterated if--

';it consists in whole or in part of any filthy putrid, or decomposed substance';; ... its labeling is false or misleading in any particular';; ...

If it had whale parts in it, it would be illegal.

This is from the Utla website , this is a Neutrogena Lipstick list of ingredients:

Active Ingredients: 7% Octyl Methoxycinnamate, 3% Benzophenone-3. Ingredients: Castor Oil, Oleyl Oleate, Candelilla Wax Beeswax, Cetyl Acetate, Ozokerite, Mineral Oil, Carnauba Wax, Methyl Glucose, Sesquistearate, Panthenol, Glycerin, Ascorbyl Palmitate, Tocopherol, Aloe Barbadensis Extract, Apricot Kernel Oil, Avocado Oil, Unsaponifables, Isodecyl Neopantoate, C10-30 Cholesterol/Laosterol Esters, Polysorbate 20, Butyl Stearate, Water, Methylparaben. May Contain: Mica, Bismuth Oxychloride, Iron Oxides, Titanium Dioxides, D%26amp;C Red No. 7 Calcium Lake, Carmine, Manganese Violet, FD%26amp;C Yellow No. 5 Aluminum Lake, FD%26amp;C Blue No. 1, Aluminum Lake, D%26amp;C Red No. 30 Lake, D%26amp;C Red No. 6 Barium Lake, D%26amp;C Red No. 28 Aluminum Lake.

2. There are no whale parts listed.

3. Some other parts such as beetle shells and fish scales are actually used:

“Carmine: A crimson pigment derived from Cochineal” - “Cochineal: A red dye made of the dried and pulverized bodies of female cochineal insects…”

Fish scales used to be used, it is much more common for ';Mica'; a mineral (much like talc but shiny) to be used now. However some very cheap lip glosses, sometimes imported Like you might win at ';Chuck'E Cheese'; may have the coarse fish stuff in it. I can tell. Because I am alergic to fish. If it doesn't have ingrediants I can't use it after that one incident.... Anyhow.

As far as toxic ';Nasty'; ingrediants go. The first two ingrediants listed above are sunscreen. All the way down to ';Aloe'; are basically the ';moisturizing'; bulk of the lipstick. Either an oil, or an humectant alcohol (like glycerin or a chemically related cousin) or a sillicon type ingrediant added for ';slip';. Then they added some ';selling point'; ingrediants with name regognition for their perceived healthful qualities. Then the preservatives, then the pigments start right after Mica.

If you are more interested in the happenings in your beauty products buy a book called ';The new beauty'; by Rhona Berg.
A lot of things, largely Cyclomethicone, Polyethylene, and a whole host of nasty toxic ingredients.
